Mitsubishi Repair: 2009 Lancer GTS warning Light, passenger side airbag, newer cars

Question
When picking my car up from the ariport parking lot, I noticed a red flashing light coming from inside the car. The light, which flashed at about a 1 sec interval, is located next to the "Passenger Side Airbag Disabled" icon in the center of the dash.

The round led flashed until I unlocked and opened the car door.

I have not seen this flashing light before and have been unable to find any information as to what it is.

That flashing light is most like a security system indicator.  Most newer cars have them and typically gets enabled when you lock the doors.  There are a number of things that can cause a security system to go off, and varies widely by make and model of car.  Check your owners manual and look for anything information dealing with the anti-theft security system.  You may also have luck contacting the service department of your local dealership for information regarding the meaning and function of this light.
