Mitsubishi Repair: 99 Eclipse in limp mode, eclipse spyder, transmission shop
QuestionI have a 1999 Eclipse Spyder convertible, SOHC, automatic. It all of a sudden is stuck in what appears to be 2nd gear. Internet searches suggest this is "limp mode". Any common causes for this condition? And is it a simple or complicated repair? Thanks!
AnswerOscar,
The severity of this problem will need to be determined by a mechanic. It may be as simple as replacing the transmission computer or could be as complicated as a transmission rebuild. When the tranny computer detects a problem, it will force this "limp mode" to prevent further damage. I would recommend either having the dealership inspect this problem or a transmission shop. A regular mechanic may not be experienced enough to diagnosis this problem.
Good luck!
