Mitsubishi Repair: 1996 Eclipse stalls, final diagnosis, torque converter

1996 Eclipse 2.0 DOHC.  The engine stalls when I put it in drive. The engine will not restart (like no fuel or spark) for a few minutes. The engine runs fine in park or neutral , no hesitation or sputter. The engine check light came on indicating 1&3 misfire. Changed plugs(.032 gap), coil pack checks good(resistance).

This may be a problem with the torque converter or within the transmission itself.  I would recommend having a mechanic inspect the transmission and fuel system.  It's even possible your transmission computer is malfunctioning.  But have a mechanic make the final diagnosis.
