Mitsubishi Repair: Belt Problems, auto salvage yard, eclipse spyder
QuestionI have a 98 mits eclipse spyder gs and i had a belt slip off. this caused the car to lose its power steering and begin to overheat due to coolant not being pumped. I cannot for the life of me find out the name of this belt so i cannot start pricing the replacement of it. Can i have the name of the belt and a place to find a new coolant overflow/reservoir as mine was flashed with steam.
AnswerTyler,
If you had a belt worn enough to slip off, I would recommend you replace all your drive belts. That includes your power steering belt, alternator belt, and your A/C belt. Though it's your alternator belt that turns your water pump. What I see as strange is that if your alternator belt failed, it should have also stopped your alternator from turning and your car would turn off your engine; preventing it from overheating. You may want to have a mechanic inspect your drive belt system and your water pump itself for any further issues.
You may have luck finding a used reservoir at an auto salvage yard or even on eBay. Else, you'll need to other a new one from the dealership.
Good luck!
