Mitsubishi Repair: oil leak, pan gasket, eagle summit
QuestionI recently bought a 1994 Eagle Summit 1.5 5 speed manual transmission 2 door coupe when I test drove it the car was excellent but a week later it started leaking oil (dripping between the trans and motor) I was thinking it was the rear seal but it dosent leak all the time just ocasionally is there possibly something else that may be causing it to leak?
AnswerJohnny,
I would guess it is the rear seal. When seals start to go bad, they can leak intermittently. The seal probably has a hard spot on it, and could be twisting in its seat. This movement can cause sporadic leaking. It's possible you have a leaky oil pan gasket, but you should really have a mechanic inspect it before leak gets worse. Leak locations get very difficult to detect once a leak gets bad. Taking it in now will at least help the mechanic diagnose exactly what needs to be replaced.
Good luck!
