QuestionHi Bill, I have an 05 shadow spirit 1100. Yesterday I tried to ride but when I let the clutch out, the bike lurched forward and died. It starts and idles perfectly.I used the service manual and all the electrical readings on the rectifier/regulator, ICM, diode, fuses and stator checked ok. The battery is charging at 14+ volts. The bike rolls freely in neutral. When I put it in 1st gear with the clutch in, it still rolls freely but with a very slight drag...don't know if that's normal. I was thinking that some clutch plates were sticking. Are there any other switches/ mechanical items that I missed ?
Thanks for your help.
Tony
AnswerTony, the first thing that came to mind was the sidestand switch.

However, if you are experiencing clutch drag with the lever pulled all the way in, with bike in gear then either the clutch is not adjusted properly or something is worn/broken in the clutch release mechanism.

There is a safety switch on the clutch lever bracket, but that generally is to prevent the bike from starting in gear when the clutch lever is not pulled in.
Make sure that your clutch lever free play is just about 1/8" at the lever. Excess free play will prevent full clutch release.
