Motorcycle Repair: honda shadow wont stay charged, negative battery cable, honda shadow

My bike was just in the shop because it had a hard time holding a charge.  I had the carbs cleaned, the oil changed, a new battery, and a new regulator put in.  However, it still won't hold a charge, and i'm wondering if you know what else I'm missing.  When I bring it back to the shop do you think they should help me out with a little maintenance for having to bring it in twice?

Hi Josh,
It sounds like a drain on the battery after the engine is shut off. Carefully check the battery voltage with the engine running, it should be ~14vdc, or more. The shop should have done these checks. Next remove the negative battery cable when you park the bike with a fully charged battery and see if the battery is still holding the charge a week later. Maybe it was more than a week, or less. If it is still strong and was not before you have found a problem. There may be more than one problem too. The shop should have checked ALL battery cable connections also.
