Motorcycle Repair: 1984 virago 700, correct switch, universal switch

bike was givin to me ignition was broke out put universal switch in . i try turning over but no gettin any spark to plugs ,took testing light to coils have power to front of coils but nothin to plugs

Allen, somehow the magneto may slill be grounded. Try a correct switch. Maybe call Steves Cycle Salvage 1-800-622-9253 and see if they can find one for you. This may power up the circuits you need and kill the ones that need shut off to complete the ignition cicuit.
