Motorcycle Repair: Honda CMX250 Rebel, honda rebel cmx250, engine case

Hi, when I turn the key I hear a metal on metal clanking sound and then my bike starts okay. It does it a few times when its hot and I key off temporarily. Is it the starter motor? Its a 1986 Honda Rebel CMX250 with no modifications.

Hi Maurice,

It sounds like it might be your starter drive
making noise. It is under the flywheel
or rotor in the left engine case.

The springs and rollers can wear out
causing the drive unit to slip and make
some noise.
