Motorcycle Repair: Honda Overcharging, resistance values, stator

Question
I have a vt800 that is overcharging all the way to 17 volts!
My Q is can it be the Stator ?  

Answer
No very unlikely.  More likely that the regulator is faulty, since that regulates the supply into the rotor which is responsible for the output on the stator.  First thing to check is all the connections, since resistance plays a role in all of this and corroded terminals have very high resistance values.
