my 1999 honda valkyrie's starter just spins i replaced it and it is still doing the same. what does the starter ingage in to turn the bike over

Hi,  The starter clutch is a one-way device that can get corrosion on it, or dents in the rollers.  First thing I would do is change the oil, this can sometimes fix the problem.  Otherwise it can be a big job depending on how much you need to dissassemble to get to the starter clutch.  good luck,  Jan
