Motorcycle Repair: starter button, starter button, light sand
QuestionI just bought a 1984 Nighthawk about a week ago. Yesterday the starter button failed, but after several minutes of trying, it finally worked. I rode home, turned it off, and then started it again several times and it was fine. This morning did the same thing; didn't work, but after several minutes it did. Don't want to get stranded somewhere if it finally fails for good. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
AnswerHi Chris,
I would, at the very least, take the starter button apart and clean it up. Some electrical contact cleaner and perhaps some light sand paper. Make sure it is good and dry; don't lube it with WD40. If it still continues to give you problems, you might want to start looking for a new(er) starter button assy.
