Motorcycle Repair: 1981 Yamaha 750 Virago, 750 virago, yamaha 750

Hi Deron, hopeing you can put me in the right direction. I have a 1981 yamaha 750 virago, i put a shim in the starter and it works but is still very embarrasing lol (but it always cranks) is there a better fix or is this as good as it gets. Thanks Ken

 They make a lot of noise, dont they?  Scare the dog under the porch...lol

Last I knew Yamaha offered a drive rebuild kit that changed the gears and offered a selection of shims....Quite a while ago I had one of these in my shop and it seems that I ordered new gears for it and some shims and it cured the issue..
