Motorcycle Repair: 69 sporty timing, hot rodder, timing hole
QuestionQUESTION: I have been reading past questions on timing, they all seem to be for timing on a side mounted system. I have the old top mounted distributor type ignition and am wondering about the procedure for static timing. I just installed new points and condensor, being an old hot rodder, I tried timing it by ear but don't think it is quite right. Could you give me some pointers?
ANSWER: Do you have a timing light and a clear plug for the timing hole?

QUESTION: I do have a timing light and can make a clear plug or live with a little spray.
AnswerWhat you want to do is install the plug or hold your finger over the hole. Set up the timing light on the front plug. Start the bike and you are looking for the timing mark, which will be a line. You are timing to 35 degrees advanced
Good luck and happy riding
