Motorcycle Repair: Honda C90 kickstart, honda c90, starter shaft

Hi.

I have a 1985 Honda C90 Economy and when I try to kickstart the bike the kickstart sometimes slips, this does not happen all the time, just every now and again but I would like to solve the problem and repair it. After all the bike is my baby

Any sugestions?

Glenn, there's a ratchet mechanism on the kick starter shaft that as you push the lever down, it causes the ratchet paw to slide down the shaft into a corresponding gear that spins the clutch drum.  It's not uncommon for those spring to wear out or break that keeps the ratchet from engaging the gear.
