Motorcycle Repair: XV750 starter problem, virago owners club, starter clutch

Everyone admits there is a design flaw in the XV750 1981-3 starter clutch but nobody tells where to find out what  has been done about it.  Where can I find solutions to this clutch problem?

The starter issue is discussed at length on their tech forum and I believe they have a link to a starter shim repair kit that should solve your problem.
