Motorcycle Repair: Bike starts with key and kill switch off, yamaha virago 750, honda cbx

Yeah I know, NOT a Honda CBX but it is a general question which would pertain to many bikes.
 Problem is my bike will start with the key and kill switch i the off positons yet the kill switch works when shutting down bike and key also works when shutting down bike. What would be the cause here?

Sounds like a possible problem with grounding.  Check the ground connections in the headlamp as well as the ground on the coil.  I am sorry I do not know the electrics on this bike...  If you cannot find the problem then let me know and I'll put it into the question pool.  Thanks and good luck,  Jan
