Motorcycle Repair: 2005 fatboy, trans gears, retainer ring

can you replace a retainer ring on third gear without removing the tranny if so which side.

Answer
You dont have to pull the trans case out, but you do have to pull the trans gears out. You would have to remove the inner primary and belt pulley. then remove the right side of the trans and slide it out. You would also have to remove the top cover and shifter cam and forks to get it out.
