I am currently restoring my Nighthawk and have run into exaust issues, i can not seem to find orginals so decided to go aftermarket, can i replace just the muffler with a universal or do i have to locate a complete system?

Michael, if the header section is still good and there is a joint or connection point where you can attach an aftermarket muffler, then go ahead and do that. You MAY have to rejet the carbs for the different backpressure/flow of an aftermarket muffler, however.
