Motorcycle Repair: 68 harly, timing hole, hole plug

How can i check valve timing on my shovelhead without opening the entire engine?

Answer
You need a timimg light and a clear timing hole plug. Pull the timing plug out of the left side of the case and install the clear plug. Connect the timing light to the front plug and run the motor. You are looking for the timing mark on the flywheel. It will be at 35 degrees before TDC
