Motorcycle Repair: 1979Honda cm400t, overflow pipe, bikebandit com
QuestionBike was running but the right carb was leaking from the drain at bottomof bowl. I pulled the carbs off and opened the bowls and cleaned them up but they were not to bad. I than bought new bowl gaskets and determined that their was a leak in the brass overflow pipe on the float bowl,so I repaired it. I than cleaned all the other parts on the carb and blew it out with compressed air. The float needles looked pretty good so I put them back in. I put the carbs back on and the bike will not start. I opened the drain plugs and their is gas in the bowls but it does not seem to be getting fuel at the plugs. I put a small amount of gas in the cylinders and it fired right up but than died agian, it will not start, can you give me some advise please
Thanks Kim
AnswerI am a little concerned with your repair of the brass overflow pipe you describe. Referring to the microfiche. Maybe you can identify what that is:

Does the bike run when fully choked?
If not then somehow the choke circuit got plugged up. Often the choke is fed via a brass tube which dips into the bowl. So I'm wondering if you somehow plugged up the choke tube as part of your repair?
