Motorcycle Repair: Vulcan 1500 side stand switch, kawasaki 1500, wire colors
QuestionI have a 1996 Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan classic. the side stand switch became dislodged. separated wires. got caught on a ramp. i would like to know how to bypass the switch. i have ordered the part but want to ride this weekend. i have tried to connect the wires together, tried to ground one of them. but it still acts like the kick stand is still down. pleas help.
AnswerHi Anthony...
Ok... I don't have the wiring diagram for the 1500 Vulcan, but I do have one for the 750 Vulcan. If your bike's wire colors are the same, then I would say what I am about to say is true: The sidestand switch should have two wires coming from it, one is Green & white, the other will be either brown or black & yellow. When the kickstand is in the up position, the two wires are shorted together. When the stand is down, they are open. The Green/white wire runs to the junction box. The brown or black/yellow wire runs to chassis ground. If shorting the two wires together does not "fool" the system, then I would suspect that one (or both) of the wires are not fully connected to the harness... check that out and let us know if it solves the problem!!
