Motorcycle Repair: case threads striped @ timing hole, timing hole, rubber plug

Question
Do you see any other option other then removing the engine and splitting the cases to repair timing plug hole threads. The bike is a 1993 evo Heritage.

About the only thing you can do is remove the motor nd split the cases. When you try to drill it for a bigger plug or putting an insert in you will get metal inside. The only other sugggestion is to get a expanding rubber plug and put in the hole. It may look bad, but you dont have to rebuild the motor.
