QuestionOkay, so I just got a 1973 CL450 a few weeks back. She was sitting and ran
rough so I started the routine work. Rebuilt carbs, adjusted valves, adjusted
cam chain. Just got it back together and now the top end is really rattling. I
adjusted the exhaust valve by ear and it's a bit better but I'm not sure I sure
ride it with the valve train not adjusted perfectly (its still noisy). Also when
rebuilding the carbs and trying to sync them I noticed that nothing changes
when I adjust the air mixture screw on the side of the carbs. I ran it long
enough to get it hot and the compression is 150 on each cyl so that's good.
The bike does run a ton better with the rebuilt carbs but I'd like to get the
valves and carbs adjusted better so I don't do any permanent damage and
also so she handles better . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

AnswerI don't have specific information on this bike so I recommend you look for a service manual or a user forum.
Valve clearance adjustment must be done according to the service manual.
I don't have experience with the older carbs with separate air and fuel idle mixture screws so I can't say anything on the method for getting those adjusted right.
