Motorcycle Repair: Honda 1987 VFR 700, clutch lever, safety circuit
QuestionI just baught this bike it was starting fine now the nuetral light wont come on while in nuetral and I get nothing when i push the start button.Brand new battery also the headlightturns off when I push the start button.
AnswerThere's a neutral light starter interlock. So if the neutral light is burned out or if the neutral light switch goes bad it won't allow the starter to engage. There is a switch on the clutch lever that is supposed to override that safety circuit so when the clutch is pulled in, it should allow the starter to work. There's a diode that goes bad sometimes and then that override doesn't work and you end up push starting the bike.
Good Luck
