Motorcycle Repair: Need some advice about a 550 Honda, motorcycle repair, repair experience
QuestionI was looking to purchase a bike but however the owner told me about a problem he had had with the engine. I was wondering if you guys could tell me if i should avoid this purchase or if it is even fixable at all. I have an intermediate amount of motorcycle repair experience having rebuilt a dirtbike or two, but never have I worked on a street bike and I know there's quite a big difference. I appreciate your advice and here it what the owner said,
During the installation of the newly rebuilt carbs, a small piece of the #3 carb chipped off and fell into the #3 cylinder. The #3 cylinder does not have compression at idle rpm range. Once the rpm’s rise to about 4000, the bike screams on all 4 cylinders."
AnswerWell, if you get it at the right price, it could be worth it. It will require a top end overall at a minimum. That's a fair amount of work since it requires pulling the engine out of the frame. So I guess it depend on what you're up for and what it will cost to repair it. If you end up taking it to a mechanic to get it repaired the, bike better be free.
