the starter will not work it clicks but that's it

Chad.... dead battery....  Charge it, load test it, if it is more than 2 years old, replace it.

Clicking starter solenoids are almost always due to low voltage/current from the battery. You can jump across the solenoid posts to apply battery voltage directly to the starter motor, just to test the starter, itself. Sometimes, the solenoids do fail, but it is fairly rare.
