Motorcycle Repair: shadow wont start, wd 40, honda shadow

hi wayne I have a 85 honda shadow 700, it run great last year but this year I can't seem to get her to start, I did get her once to barely idle for about 15 sec. before she died.
I replaced plugs and put in a new battery.
also in the airbox I notice fuel spitting in

-check if the compression is about equal
on both cylinders.

-check that you have spark on both wires.

-likely the carbs idle jets are plugged up
with old gas varnish.

-try some wd-40 or carb cleaner in the
carb intake, see if it fires.

-you could fill the carbs with carb cleaner
and let them soak awhile.
-Drain the carbs and try it again.

-are the plugs wet or dry?

-you may need a more complete carb
clean if it won't respond.
