Motorcycle Repair: 01 yamaha raptor, starter solenoid, yamaha raptor

my raptor will not start with start button but will start and run fine when jumping the solenoid. i have checked all wiring and connections. could the button be bad?

Their are two wires on the starter solenoid one is ground black, the other is from the starter button on the handle bars which could range from a variety of other colors. But the ground is black. Turn the ignition on and push the button on the handle bars. Check the wire for voltage (should be 12 volts). If you get 12 volts replace the solenoid.
