Motorcycle Repair: 1986 honda xl600r, motorcycle oil, thick oil

I have an 1986 honda xl600r and i need to order a repair manual but until then what is the best oil i could use to keep the motor running good before rebuilding it

I think a 10W40 motorcycle oil would be
the best unless you live where the
weather is quite warm, then 20W50 is okay.

-It takes thick oil like 20W50 awhile to get
pumping and damage can occur during
that time if used in colder climates.
