Motorcycle Repair: Clutch friction point changeing, clutch friction, yamaha v max
QuestionI have a 1986 Yamaha V-max. It is running hot right now and I am trying coolant additive to bring the temp down. Right now, when the bike gets hot I have to pull the clutch lever in farther and farther to get the clutch to disengage. This weekend it got to the point where I couldn't get it to disengage all the way. Had to turn off the bike and let it cool down. Its a hydraulic clutch, and it doesn't look like I have to bleed the system. A local mechanic thought that my clutch plates might be warped, making them more sensitive to heat. Have you come across this before?
AnswerJoe,
Normal for a clutch when hot to not engage right. But the question is why are you getting hot. Have you tired a different type of oil, what oil are you useing? What temp is the bike running at? If the clutch plate's were warped they would have a weird feel all the time. Make sure your oil is right, that it is still good not brokedown, and the right weight/ kind of oil.
Good luck
