QuestionHI. bike was working fine, just quit, will only rev, nothing at back wheel, but if you but it on the kickstand it shifts through all the gears with the wheel spinning. would this be the clutch ?
AnswerKim,
sounds like the clutch is slipping.
If everything looks and feels normal
on the outside, like the clutch lever,
wheel, drive line etc and you don't
hear any strange noises, it is likely
the clutch plates are slipping.
-Make sure the clutch push rod that
goes through the center of the clutch is
not bent. Check the outer clutch hub for wear
grooves, they can be filed a bit.
The plates should be inspected for
burns and warpage. The friction
plates at least will need replacing.
-The steel plates can be cleaned up if
not warped. Check the clutch springs
for even height. Soak the new plates
in some engine oil or ATF before installing.
