Hi Gary,

In a nutshell, exhaust sonic pressure waves are affected by changes to the exhaust. Exhaust systems are engineered with flow characteristics and thermal disipation goals in mind, etc... etc...

These pressure waves affect how extremely hot exhaust gasses are scavenged from cylinders and moved through the exhaust system. Exhaust valves may have difficulty dispiating/transfering heat energy and as a result, may become defective.
