Motorcycle Repair: Magneto stator, honda xl, stator

I own an 83 Honda XL 250R and it doesn't charge the battery. I've been told I need to replace the magneto stator. I suppose the windings wear out eventually. My question is will a stator out of an 82 Honda XL250 fit in my 83 Honda? Thanks for your help, muchly appreciated.

all i can say is 'most likely' because the service manuals didn't change for those years.  I can't say for sure because any customizations such as this can only be know if they're tried first hand, and I have not done so in this case.
