Motorcycle Repair: Alternator not charging, carbon brushes, honda motorcycle
QuestionI have a 1982 CB 900C Honda Motorcycle with less than 14,000 miles on it and the alternator does not charge. I put a volt meter on battery and I am lucky to get above 11 1/2 volt with engine revved. I have replaced rectifier regulator which did not help. I removed statter and cover, brushes are fine and I put 12 volt to rotor and I do have magnetizm. I have tried a new battery with no luck. I have a manual and I've done tests according to the manual and I just can't find the problem. Statter seems OK from what I can tell. I've traced every wire that I can find. Are the 900's known to have trouble with the charging system? If so, do you have any suggestions.
Thanks,

AnswerHi Tim,
If the alternator's (stator) carbon brushes are within service limits, and the Reg/Rec tested ok, then the alternator is defective.
