Motorcycle Repair: yamaha v star 1100shaft drive noise and fluid, star shaft, yamaha v star

my fathers v star shaft drive is noise. it is sounds like a growling noise. 5000 miles. i have never rode another v star so i am un sure if this is normal or not, he thinks it is too loud.
also what type of fluid is recommended.

I cannot diagnose noises via the internet. I recommend your father have a Yamaha tech listen to the noises. A tech should give a listen for free.

Ref the type oil to use, check the Owner's Manual. Usually SAE 80-90 Hypoid gear oil is recommended. Visit the following web link and see what other V-Star owners are using.
