Motorcycle Repair: rust in gas tank, dangerous chemicals, new tank

Hey  Falcon  what i need to know is i have a old 1977  honda its a XL 175 that i am wanting to sale. but it has  rust in the  gas tank and i need to get it out and clean up so it will run so that it will sale. how can i get the rust out so that the gas will flow

Hi Richard.

There are 2 ways to get rid of the rust issue (actually 3, but I doubt that you want to buy a new tank).

There is the hard way and the easy way.

The hard way is to actually clean the tank, which is very time consuming and requires some dangerous chemicals.

The easy way is to just reseal the tank.  It will seal the rust out and keep the it from getting to the fuel system.

The easiest is to replace the fuel tank, but it is cheaper to reseal the tank.
