QuestionHello, i was wondering as to the feasability and cost-effeciency of somehow replacing the pedals on a bicyle with a small two-stroke engine and rigging the shaft to the gear chain. Doing so would presumably result in a motorized bicycle.
I have access to a work place wherein i could easily aquire the tools necessary for such an operation, so the only expenses would be the cost of the engine, and my time [of which i have an abundance at the moment].
please provide information helpful to me in deciding whether to do this^ or to purchase some sort of motorbike
AnswerHi Will.
Been done. It's called a moped. The original production motorcycles, in the late 1800's and early 1900's were just that. A small motor attached to a bicycle. However, the simpler solution would be what many have already done. Simply attatch a small motor to the bike behind the seat and have it turn a wheel that pushes against the rear wheel.
Look up motorised bicycles in a google search and you will probably find tons of info for your idea. You can also check for a photo history of motorcycles. There must be one out there.
Good luck on your project.
Let me know how it comes out.
Ride safe.
