Motorcycle Repair: New Purchase 1985 Yamaha Maxim XJ700, yamaha maxim, fuel treatment
QuestionHi,
I've just bought a 1985 Yamaha Maxim XJ700. This is my first street bike. The bike looks like it was well maintained. I will be riding this bike to work at roughly 80 miles a day. My question is what maintenance should I do on the bike before I start riding it?
Thanks
Rob
AnswerHi Rob.
If you have no knowledge of the bike's maintainence history, then here is what you need to do;
1) Change the oil and oil filter.
2) Check the air filter. Change the air filter if it is dirty.
3) put about 1/2 a bottle of fuel treatment (the type with jet fuel) into the tank before you run the bike. Use the rest in the next tank and do this about once every 3 - 6 months.
And last, but not least, Go out and have fun riding.
Ride safe.
