Motorcycle Repair: 1988 Honda GL1500 Goldwing Cruise Control, honda gl1500 goldwing, cruise control

Chris, I have a 1988 GL1500 Honda Goldwing with about 50,000 miles on it.  The cruise control always worked just fine but now, I can't get it to "set".  The "cruise control on" light lights up but the "cruise control set" light does not.  And of course the control does not set. I just feel in my bones it is an electrical problem since the "set" light doesn't come on.  What do you think is wrong?  Mike

Hi Mike.

 I see 3 possibilities here;

1) There is a short in the wiring to that switch.

2) The switch is dirty.

3) There is a fault in the electronic control board circuit that is completely unrepairable.

I would not recommend getting it to a mechanic to have it properly checked out, unless you are really good at electrical work.
