Motorcycle Repair: Stator replacement, regulator rectifiers, stator

Hello Chris,
I have an 81 750 Virago. The new battery keeps going dead.The multimeter tests in the manual recommend a new stator.Should I replace the  rotor too and is it possible to get them tested before buying new. Also could the problem be the Rectifier. Thankyou, Steve P.

Hi Steve.

Regulator/rectifiers and rotors rarely, if ever, go bad.  go ahead and replace the coil.  You will see, on the old one, that the visible coil parts are blackened rather than the nice coppery color that a good coil will have.
