Motorcycle Repair: cant find 6th gear, manual states, supossed

Hi Chris.
How's your gearbox knowledge?

i passed my test recently and bought a cheap bike - 1996 suzuki gsx750f.  Been out riding a little but sounds like it needs another gear.  I can select 1 down 4 up.  The bike was advertised as 5 gears and other bikers are not sure what its supossed to be.  On the gearbox casing just by gear change lever its stamed 1 down 5 up!  So it should have 6 gears.  Its just not there.  Theres no crunching or grinding and i cant even feel it trying to fing a gear when i try and select.  It does feel as if its at the top of the box.  Any idea why i cant select 6th.

PS.  The instruction manual states 6!

Hi Dazza.

If the book and gearbox say it's six gears, then it has 6 gears.  If 2 doctors say you're sick, lie down :).

If you are unable to engage 6th gear, then there is a serious problem that should be addressed by a mechanic.  Get it in the shop right away and have that tended to.
