Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki Zephyr 750 CDI unit, kawasaki zephyr 750, mcm electronics
QuestionI have a Japanese grey import ZR750 c1. I think the CDI unit is on the way out. I've been looking for a replacement but all the second hand parts I can find have a part number ending in 1310 or 1313, mine ends 1079.
I think the difference in CDI may be that the Japanese model has no off switch for the headlight, but I am just guessing.
How can I tell what is safe to use.
AnswerHi Bini,
The manufacturers don't proveide specs on their semi-conductors and circuitry.
For example, my GSX-R altenator failed. The altenator retailed for $640 new. The replacement chip that repaired the problem cost $12 at MCM Electronics. The difficult part was the time invested in probing the components and identifying them.
Maybe you can have a engineer pal do this for you on the CDI/ECM. Otherwise, I don't know the difference between the part numbers.
