QuestionHi Mark:
My Goldwing was not ridden for two years. Unfortunately I did not start the bike or perform any maintenance during this time. My bad.
I have changed the oil, new spark plugs, drained and added new fuel, and a new battery. It cranks over fine but will not start.
I pulled a plug and there is no gas getting to the cylinder. The gas is getting to the fuel pump and it is sending gas to the carburetor. I can smell no gas in the carburetors.
I have read that there probably is gas sludge in the carbs. Will this prevent gas getting to the carburetors? Short of pulling the carbs off the bike and sending to a repair shop do you have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.
AnswerHi Ed,
Varnished fuel will obstruct jets and fuel passageways.
I suggest you clean the carburetors yourself and save the $300 + parts.
Send me your email address as requested. I'll return tech files on carburetor cleaning, parts links, and more.
Respectfully,
