Motorcycle Repair: HONDA SHADOW NOISE, motorcycle usa, www motorcycle
QuestionMY 98 AERO 1100 WITH 15,500 MILES DEVELOPED A TICKING NOISE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE MOTOR A FEW MONTHS AGO. THIS NOISE DOESN'T HAPPEN UNTIL THE BIKE HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR 7 TO 10 MINUTES. THE NOISE SEEMS TO BE BELOW THE CYLINDERS. IF YOU PUT THE BIKE IN NEUTRAL AND LEAN IT ON THE KICKSTAND THE NOISE FADES AND GOES AWAY AFTER A MINUTE OR SO. THE LOCAL DEALER RULED OUT A LIFTER, SAYING A LIFTER WOULD INITIALLY MAKE NOISE, AND FADE UPON WARMUP. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO (AT ABOUT 7,000 MI) I HAD A 2 INTO 1 EXHAUST AND A JET KIT INSTALLED, OTHERWISE THE BIKE IS STOCK. THE BIKE RUNS AND ACCELERATES FINE, BUT THE TICKING SOUND IS BAFFLING AND A BIT EMBARASSING WHEN IDLING AT A LIGHT. HOPE YOU CAN HELP.
THANKYOU - LARRY BLATT
AnswerHi Larry,
I need to hear the sound to accurately diagnose the source.
I suspect a exhaust leak, clutch assy. problem, or transmission problem. Just dunno without being there.
