Motorcycle Repair: 1999 GSXR 600 oil pan repair, oil pan repair, thread inserts

recently the threads in the oil pan, where the drain plug sits became stripped out. Is there a way to repair the threads without going to machine shop, or having to replace the oil pan that I can do myself?

Chances are good that the threads can be restored or replaced with stronger, steel thread inserts.
