QuestionI have a 1982 Goldwing 1100GL that does not want to start, after driving it for a while. It actes like the battery is not providing enough juice, but replacing the battery did nothing to fix the problem. Then I replaced the regulator with the same results. It seems to me, that as the bike gets hot the problem becomes more frequent. After the bike cools off it starts very quickly. I am leaning more towards a faulty starter, but I am only guessing. I appreciate any tips.
AnswerHi Ollie,
I suspect worn brushes in the starter motor is the cause of the problem.
Clean carbon powder build up from starter motor and replace brushes.
The GL1100 may require the engine mounts to be loosened or removed to maneuver engine to allow removal of the starter motor.
Visit the links below. These are good resources for your GL.
