QuestionI need to replace the starter on a 1986 Honda GL1200 Goldwing, I have the service manuel and it dosen't seem to be a big deal, however when I went to buy the starter the local dealers are making a big deal telling me that it is a huge job. Now I am not sure if I want to tackle the job myself. I have a complete set of tools and have been working on cars for many years. Could you please tell me if there is anything I should be aftaid of. The labor cost I was quoted for about $500.00.
thank you
Gary
AnswerGary, I wouldn't go in w/o a manual for guidance. I have no direct knowledge of the difficulties for replacement of the starter motor...
http://www.goldwingfacts.com/used1200.htm
sort of mentions that they are known to have issues, but doesn't say how to replace it.
Perhaps you can get more from these links.
