AnswerHi Mike,
That's an awesome MC!
Some vibrations are normal, but any new and noticable vibration should be checked by a tech. It may be very minor in nature, or a early symptom of something more serious.
Sounds and vibrations really cannot be diagnosed without being present and learning the source and cause of the symptom.
Excessive or loose valve clearances make tapping like sounds and is normal. No damage will occur, but try and keep valve lash within service limits for optimum performance. Lack of valve clearance will damage valves and valve seats, and usually makes no sounds.
For performance and maintanence tips, visit the R1 website link pasted below. Buy Yamaha's Service/Repair Manual. it is expensive, but an investment. Avoid other brand manuals. They seem to lack intel and are not very clear on procedures.
