QuestionI own a 2000 Kawasaki en500 vulcan with only 6000km. This a 2 cyl twin model. For the past month, it has developed this progressive malfunction whereby it clearly misfires for a complete cycle just as if someone had turned the kill switch off/on for a brief second. This has started to be more and frequent.
As a consequence of this the bike even comes to a complete stop though the power remains on thus eliminating any battery related problem. Whether i am driving at 20 or 100km/per hour it still stops. If i try to restart it with the power on, it fails to start. I have to actually turn the ignition switch off/on, then it starts immediately.
Question: Being an electrical issue, can this be
an ignition switch problem or kill
switch one? I have traced the wires and
was unable to find any snagged or lose wires anywhere. Any thoughts on what this maybe?
Thanks in advance
AnswerHi Andre,
I haven't experienced this problem as a tech, though I suspect a problem with the electronics. Having to turn the ignition key off before starting may be re-setting relays or other electronic components.
Try a message board such as "www.motorcycle-usa.com/forum" and post this question there. Maybe another EN500 owner has experienced the same symptoms and has the answer.
